Texas Tech’s biggest donor, Cody Campbell, has strongly denied claims that he is funding a PR campaign to help out the team’s quarterback Brendan Sorsby amid his gambling scandal.
Sorsby has been accused of placing bets during his time with Indiana and Cincinnati. Claims were made that Cincinnati leaked his gambling issues after he refused to pay his buyout as he left for Texas Tech in the transfer portal earlier this year.
Campbell was dragged into the fray when social media users claimed that he had “liked” tweets suggesting that the gambling revelation was Cincinnati’s way of getting back at the player.
A college football account added fuel to the fire with the following claim:
Texas Tech’s primary investor, Cody Campbell, is reportedly funding a $1 million PR campaign to push claims that Cincinnati was aware of (Brendan) Sorsby’s gambling situation…
Campbell strongly denied the claims.
No, I’m absolutely not…And if you’re going to just make stuff up, at least use a better picture of me,” he wrote.
The tweet has since been deleted.

Brendan Sorsby Needs to Knuckle Down and Put His Focus on Football
Sorsby’s lawyers recently filed a motion to dismiss the $1 million buyout allegedly owed to the Cincinnati Bearcats, and as the legal drama unfolds, the new Red Raiders quarterback would be well-served by focusing entirely on football rather than getting bogged down behind the scenes.
Lots of athletes have suffered amid such scandals, and Sorsby would hate to go down as a similar footnote, especially when he knows he has all the talent in the world.
