As the world awaits on the NCAA’s decision on banning quarterback Brendan Sorsby over his gambling addictions, new details on his gambling habits have emerged. He stands accused on betting on a lot of games, including on ones involving his own teams. However, as it turns out, his gambling addiction was a lot more diverse, as he also made more obscure bets as he continued his college football career.
A new filing has revealed that Sorsby is suffering from a “clinically diagnosed” gambling disorder, which makes it a mental health condition. It also revealed much on Sorsby’s gambling habits, such as betting on “Turkish basketball league, Romanian soccer games, obscure doubles tennis matches and Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.”
The filing was made by Sorsby’s attorneys, who accused the NCAA of moving to protect its own interests instead of helping the quarterback deal with his mental health.
“The NCAA’s response reflects a self-protective bureaucracy that has abandoned its professed commitment to student-athlete well-being and that ignores the contractual and legal obligations it owes to student-athletes,” the filing stated.
In response, the NCAA stated that they had not received any reinstatement request from Bendan Sorsby’s camp yet, noting that they also do not comment on prending reinstatement requests if Sorsby’s camp did indeed file one.
Brendan Sorsby Fighting For Reinstatement as NFL Supplemental Draft Deadline Looms
So far, Brendan Sorsby has not yet declared for the NFL Supplemental Draft, and he only has a little over a month to file the necessary paperwork to join, with the deadline being on June 22.
As this is happening, he is still awaiting for a judge to rule on his case. Sorsby, despite his gambling scandal, is still eligible to join the NFL Supplemental Draft should he be ruled ineligible. For now, all he could do is wait for the judge to decide on his future, but the clock is already ticking.
