Since the Baylor Bears won the Big 12 Championship in 2021, going 12-2 and winning the Sugar Bowl in Dave Aranda‘s second year at the helm, they’ve gone 9-16 the last two seasons, including a 3-9 finish in 2023. With a 23-25 overall record, Aranda was granted a fifth campaign in Waco, but 2024 might be his last if the Bears can’t right the ship.
Facing some former Pac-12 members that hopped over to the Big 12, the Baylor 2024 football schedule won’t offer Aranda much relief, slated for 10 matchups against conference opposition.

10 of Baylor’s 12 games are against Big 12 foes, but only nine will count towards their conference record. Baylor and the Utah Utes scheduled a home-and-home in 2015, eight years before the Utes moved to the Big 12 this offseason. Utah won the first meeting last season, 20-13, in the Utes’ final season in the Pac-12.
Baylor will host the Tarleton State Texans to open the season, an FCS program in Stephenville, Texas. It will be the second matchup between the two schools, with the Bears beating the Texans, 35-0, on September 24, 1921. Baylor’s only other non-conference game will be at home against Air Force, a team that beat the Bears in 2022, 35-30.
The Bears officially open conference play on the road against another Big 12 newcomer — the Colorado Buffaloes. It will be the first matchup between the two programs since 2010, with Baylor winning that one, 35-21. They follow that by hosting BYU for the first time since the Cougars joined the Big 12 last year. BYU won the last meeting in 2022, 26-20.

Five of the last seven conference games will be against teams that beat Baylor last season — Iowa State (30-18), Texas Tech (39-14), TCU (42-17), West Virginia (34-31), and Houston (25-24 in OT). Baylor last met its other two opponents at home in 2022, losing to Oklahoma State in Waco, 36-25, but beating Kansas, 35-23.
