The Washington Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles squared off in a game that ended up being overshadowed by an off-field controversy. During the matchup, a spectator displayed a large banner containing racist and inflammatory messaging, leading to immediate action from stadium officials. The individual has since been banned by the Nationals.
The banner, which promoted a white nationalist website, included the message “Save America. Deport 100+ million.” It remained visible for close to a minute before security stepped in and removed it, with fans watching the situation unfold.
Reports indicate that authorities have identified at least one person involved, who has now been prohibited from entering Nationals Park. An investigation is ongoing in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Department, though the Nationals have not released the individual’s identity publicly.
“The Washington Nationals vehemently condemn discriminatory and hateful rhetoric, and we strive to make our home field a safe space for our fans,” the Nationals said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Jake Lang, a far-right activist who was also linked to the January 6 United States Capitol attack, posted on X (formerly Twitter) claiming that he was behind the incident.
“The Crusaders have just completed our first MASSIVE FLAG DROP at the Washington Nationals MLB game!!!!! THE CROWD WENT ABSOLUTELY NUTS!!!! (They might have killed us if we didn’t get escorted out…),” Lang wrote.
Orioles Manager Shows Frustration After Losing To Nationals
The Baltimore Orioles attempted to claw their way back into the contest with a three-run surge in the seventh inning, briefly cutting into the deficit. However, any hopes of a turnaround were quickly extinguished as the Washington Nationals responded in emphatic fashion with a seven-run burst of their own, firmly seizing control of the game.
Standout contributions from Keibert Ruiz, who drove in five runs, along with a strong showing from Jacob Young, propelled the Nationals to a commanding 13–3 victory. The result once again highlighted the Orioles’ ongoing struggles on the mound, as well as their inconsistency at the plate in recent outings.
Following the defeat, Orioles manager Craig Albernaz did not hold back his frustration while addressing reporters, saying:
“It’s always frustrating. It’s a part of the game, it’s never not going to be frustrating. … It’s not like Akin was out there trying to do what he did, but he still was competing, throwing strikes, and they did a good job of putting the ball in play.”
The Washington Nationals added to their lead in the eighth inning when Brady House launched a two-run homer off Josh Walker.
For the Baltimore Orioles, conceding 13 runs marked their second-worst defensive showing of the season, with only their heavy 17-1 defeat to the Boston Red Sox on April 25 being more one-sided.
