“Of Course It’s Ole Miss Crying About Something” – Fans React After First ABS Challenge In College Baseball History Goes Wasted

No. 9 seed Ole Miss Rebels baseball kicked off their 2026 SEC Baseball Tournament campaign on Tuesday, May 19 against No. 16 Missouri Tigers baseball, with the game drawing extra attention due to the use of the Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) system. While Ole Miss did opt to challenge a call using the technology, the decision ultimately went against them, and fans were far from impressed.

The Automated Ball-Strike (ABS) system, which determines whether a pitch falls within the strike zone, has already been implemented in leagues like the KBO League, Minor League Baseball, and Major League Baseball. Its introduction at the college level marked a notable step forward, but Ole Miss’ unsuccessful challenge, which upheld the umpire’s original call, sparked criticism online.

Fans have now taken to X (formerly Twitter) to vent their frustrations with Ole Miss, with one user writing:

“This is why it should be restricted to the pros. They aren’t good enough in college yet.”

“Their coach immediately before the game: ‘We aren’t going to waste a challenge in a situation that doesn’t really matter. Top of the second, no one in scoring position, that sort of thing.’ Top of the first, one out, no one on, 2-2, wasted challenge. Lmao,” another wrote.

“Of course it’s ole miss crying about something and getting it completely wrong,” another commented.

“ABS is a much smaller zone than what college players are used to. If it’s implemented in the future, hitters takes and swing decisions will improve. Pitchers will undoubtedly need to command the ball better and have 2 + offerings that can play in the middle of the zone,” one account posted.

“They only get 3 and they picked that time to challenge fuggin morons,” another tweeted.

“Ole Miss always losing,” another joined in.

Ole Miss Knocked Out Of SEC Tournament By Missouri

Ole Miss Rebels baseball were eliminated from the SEC Baseball Tournament after suffering a 10–8 loss to the tournament’s lowest seed, Missouri Tigers baseball, in the opening round on May 19 at the Hoover Met. The result marked Missouri’s first win in the SEC Tournament since 2017.

With the victory, Missouri (24–30) moved on to face No. 8 Mississippi State Bulldogs baseball in the second round on May 20. Meanwhile, Ole Miss (36–21) saw their tournament run come to an early end and will now turn their attention to the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

The Rebels had entered the competition with a slim chance of securing a top-16 national seed and hosting a regional. However, Missouri, despite finishing as the lowest seed and managing only six conference wins, delivered a performance that belied their underdog status.
