MLB Analyst Drops Bold Claim Favoring Yordan Alvarez Over Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, Juan Soto in High-Pressure Moments

Houston Astros star slugger Yordan Alvarez received massive praise even over the likes of Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge. Those four hitters are arguably the best in the business. However, when comparing, Alvarez doesn’t get as much mention or nod for his hitting in MLB as compared to these other stars.

On Friday’s Baseball Today, former MLB All-Star Trevor Plouffe put Alvarez above Ohtani, Soto and Judge as the “best pure hitter” in the MLB. According to Plouffe, in a given clutch scenario, Alvarez can give you the best outcome. Plouffe also mentioned his reasons for thinking so.

“If we’re in a big spot in a big game, and the opposing team can pick whatever pitcher they want to come into the game, I’m taking Yordan every single time in those situations for some of the reasons you highlighted,” Plouffe said. “He’s split-proof, doesn’t strike out much, has massive pop, hits for average, and does everything right.”

Plouffe later pointed out some weaknesses in Ohtani, Judge and Soto to prove his point further.

“I think a lot of those guys have some holes,” Plouffe added. “Shohei can get swing-happy and chase a little bit. Aaron Judge, from time to time, can go on a strikeout streak. Juan Soto is probably a little bit more well-rounded, tough to strike out, and takes his walks. But Yordan, to me, in those situations, I think he might be the best pure hitter in the game.”

In the ongoing season, Alvarez is hitting on another level, batting .357/.471 /.776 with a 1.247 OPS. He has hit 11 home runs and added 26 RBIs. Meanwhile, Judge is hitting just .237 this season, Ohtani has just managed to hit six home runs while batting .321 and Soto only just returned after missing several games.

Yordan Alvarez Leads Barry Bonds And All MLB Sluggers In Insane Hitting Stat

Yordan Alvarez might just be the best left-handed hitter against southpaws in the history of the game. The Astros slugger just completed the 1,000 plate appearances threshold against left-handed pitchers and has maintained a career OPS of .988 against them.

That’s the best in MLB history, even leading the second-best Barry Bonds who maintained .986 OPS against the southpaws. Astros general manager Dana Brown was in awe of the slugger when he heard this.

“Very rare,” the Astros general manager said. “To have a guy like this that’s that dynamic against lefties — it’s really special, and it’s welcome. We need stuff like that. Platoon-neutral, you don’t have to worry about anything — [he] can just go get ’em.”

Alvarez is earning early MVP votes and this could truly be the season where the Astros truly stamp their authority on the league.
