With the trade deadline approaching, back-to-back Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal is on everyone’s radar. The Detroit Tigers ace is in the middle of another good season, posting a 5-4 record and 3.06 ERA after 12 starts.
Skubal will turn free agent at the end of the season. Therefore, the Tigers are expected to trade him before they risk losing him for nothing in the offseason.
On Thursday, MLB analyst Mark DeRosa seems to have found the best destination for the left-hander. It’s highly unlikely for Detroit to trade its gem in the same American League, so the likely destination has to be from the National League. While DeRosa understands the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs are the teams that need an addition to their rotation, he believes the Milwaukee Brewers could turn out to be the best landing spot.
“If they do move on and trade him, the team that makes the most sense, I know the Braves and the Cubs need starters, is the Brewers,” DeRosa said on MLB Network.
With flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski firing on all cylinders, the addition of Skubal increases Milwaukee’s chances to win the 2026 World Series. He even mentioned that with the pitching rotation like that, even the back-to-back World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, would be afraid to face them.
“If you go out and get Tarik Skubal to pair with Jacob Misiorowski and Kyle Harrison, along with that offense and Pat Murphy at the helm, don’t tell me they can’t walk into Dodger Stadium, match up with the Dodgers, and take them down, because they can,” DeRosa added.
What Milwaukee Can Offer Tigers in Potential Tarik Skubal Trade
The Brewers have enough prospect capital to make a competitive offer for Tarik Skubal without gutting their major league roster. According to Mark DeRosa, the Brewers have nine of the top 100 prospects, excluding Andrew Fischer, who has hit 28 home runs in the minor leagues right now.
The Tigers could demand shortstop Jesus Made from Milwaukee in exchange for Skubal. He is the No. 1 prospect in Baseball America right now. However, the Brewers might put him on the list of untouchables.
Brewers’ Cooper Pratt, who is No. 43 in the country, could give Detroit a potential long-term shortstop. If the Tigers want a prospect from the outfield, the Brewers could offer them Luis Lara, ranked No. 47.
A deal that could at least get Detroit’s attention might include Pratt, Lara, right-hander Bishop Letson and Fischer.
