New York Mets star Dominican OF Juan Soto faced backlash from fans for his recent comments about the ballclub’s youth players and the overall farm system. The comments came during a post-game interview after the Mets sealed a series sweep of the Detroit Tigers at home, kicking off their six-game homestand on a grand note.
Soto was asked to reflect on recent performances by Carson Benge and AJ Ewing and to provide an overall outlook on the organization’s farm system. “That’s one of the things we looked at when we signed here, how great the farm system was and how much talent is down there. To see it live is really cool,” Soto said.
Fans were quick to call out the 2019 World Series champion, many calling him a liar who was dishing out pure lies to the media.
“Lying outta his a**,” one fan commented.
“He is lying lol (I’m a Mets fan),” another fan commented.
“765 million lmao he don’t give one damn about the farm system,” yet another fan commented.
Some other fans voiced their honest take on Soto’s comments, stating that despite his throwing his weight behind the farm system, the ballclub was destined to miss the playoffs. One fan exclaiming that the Yankees have a better farm system, further criticizing the Dominican for choosing to sign with the Bombers’ Subway Series rivals in December 2024.
“Lil guy is content cashing a paycheck, missing the playoffs, and sitting in last place in the division,” one fan commented.
“The Yankees have way more young talent than the Mets n**** just sounds dumb as hell you signed there for the dollar signs goofball,” another fan commented.
“So much talent to miss the playoffs and have an awful start the following year, mf signed for the money and is still lying about it,” yet another fan commented.
Juan Soto Projecting Subpar Numbers at The Plate in 2026
The Mets’ superstar’s 2026 season hasn’t started ideally. An early-April injury limited his playing time, affecting his offensive outlook for the year. In 28 games, Soto has a .269 batting average, five home runs, 13 RBIs, and an .829 OPS. Based on current trends, he’s projected to hit 19 home runs and have 49 RBIs, numbers that are middling compared to his previous standards.
However, with more than three-quarters of the season remaining, Soto’s exceptional talent gives him the potential to quickly reverse his fortunes, as he demonstrated by helping the team achieve its first series sweep. New York will now welcome their cross-city rivals for the first Subway Series of the year, hoping to make it back-to-back home series wins.
