Jarren Duran has been the subject of trade rumors over the last few offseasons. The Boston Red Sox star is part of a roster where there is a surplus in outfield with the availability of Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu. This is the reason many believe Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow will trade either Abreu or Duran.
It’s not a comfortable position to be in, but Duran is far from the rumor mill. However, the same can’t be said about his parents, who send a panic text to the outfielder every time they hear a new speculation.
“I never look at that stuff,” Duran said Monday at JetBlue Park. “My parents look at it enough for me. So they text me and go, ‘Did you get traded?’ I’m like, ‘You really think I’m not going to tell you if I get traded? Come on.’ So, no, I never give it any two cents. It’s in God’s hands and whatever happens, happens.
“And then I kind of tell them like, ‘Hey, you don’t need to be doing that. I’m going to let you know if it happens.’ And then they kind of mellow down from there.”
If Boston doesn’t trade any one of their outfielders, the way they can make it work is by rotating Anthony and Duran in the DH spot.
Jarren Duran “Disappointed” After Subpar 2025 Season
Jarren Duran finished eighth in 2024 AL MVP voting. However, the pitchers were able to restrict him well last season, especially southpaws, against whom the Red Sox slugger could only hit .211 with a .260 on-base percentage, .340 slugging percentage and .600 OPS in 209 plate appearances.
Duran knows he hasn’t lived up to the expectations of fans, but he also admits that he does everything he can to give his best.
“I’m always disappointed in myself,” Duran said. “I always feel like I don’t do the best that I can do. And I feel like I let the fans down sometimes or my teammates. But it’s a new year. I just gotta flush it and go out and do my thing. I come in every time and try to work my hardest. And I know that my teammates and the fans realize that I’m always working my hardest, so that’s all I can do.”
Duran also spoke about his approach to spring training. He shared that he doesn’t have premeditated thought running on his mind and he’s out there to do well in whatever role the front office assigns him. The outfielder is aiming to do well in 2026, saying that he’s going to make the necessary adjustments which should help him do well against the southpaws.
