Corey Seager Clarifies Dynamic With Marcus Semien After Toxic Relationship Rumors

Joining the Texas Rangers on a seven-year, $175 million contract in December 2021, Marcus Semien went on to establish himself as a fan favorite in Arlington.

He earned two All-Star selections, a Gold Glove, a Silver Slugger award and an All-MLB First Team selection during his time in Texas, while also playing a key role in helping the organization win their first World Series.

Earlier this offseason, however, he was involved in a trade that came as a bit of a surprise to fans, as he was traded to the New York Mets in exchange for Brandon Nimmo. This led to some speculation that there may have been a rift in the Rangers’ clubhouse between Semien and one of the team’s other key players, Corey Seager.

Speaking to insider Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports on Monday, Seager cleared the air about his relationship with Marcus Semien, confirming there was no bad blood between the two.

“These things are in-house, people don’t know about them, it’s just all speculation. Me and Marcus have a fine relationship,” Seager said.

“We both respect each other, we’re both professional. We knew how to go about our business and try to accomplish a goal, and we did that in ’23. You can’t take that away from us.”

Insider Predicts Marcus Semien To Bounce Back From Offensive Struggles Of 2025 And Be An Important Player For The New York Mets

Marcus Semien struggled from an offensive standpoint in 2025, finishing the season with a .230 batting average, 15 home runs, and 62 RBIs. Despite this, WFAN’s Evan Roberts thinks he will come good for the New York Mets in 2026.

“Marcus Semien comes to the Mets with a reputation. One of the reputations he has is that he outworks everybody. He’s one of the hardest working guys in all of baseball,” Roberts said On January 18 (Timestamp: 25:35).

“I think when you have a player like that, the idea that he can have a plus .750 OPS year, a .240 year, a 25 home run season, I don’t think that’s crazy. I would take any bet that he will produce better numbers than a year ago,” he added.

From a defensive standpoint, Marcus Semien will be featuring at second base at Citi Field, while we can likely expect to see Jorge Polanco, Francisco Lindor and Bo Bichette playing first base, shortstop and third base, respectively.
