Yankees captain Aaron Judge, sidelined for nearly four weeks with a stress fracture in his right rib, has openly discussed the team’s ongoing slump. They are now experiencing a seven-game losing streak after a 6-2 loss to the Tigers on Wednesday. Additionally, the Bronx Bombers have been swept in consecutive series against the Red Sox and Tigers.
During a recent interview at Yankee Stadium, Judge was asked to comment on the team’s ongoing slump before the series finale against the Tigers on Wednesday. He clearly expressed his dissatisfaction with what he has observed from the dugout over the past week.
“Well, it’s not great,” Judge said at his locker before Wednesday afternoon’s game against the Detroit Tigers. “Just a little lack of focus. We just gotta dial it in. Our ultimate goal is to win a World Series. I think guys have to remember that every single day they show up here. We’re here to win a World Series,” Judge said, via Gary Phillips of The New York Daily News.
“That should motivate you every single day you step on that field, no matter what happens, no matter what happens the day before. ‘I got a job to do.’ We’ve got an important sign when you walk out on the field. It’s the last sign you see before you’re out there; it says do your job. Guys are here to do their job,” he added.
As a result of the recent skid, the Yankees are now 48-38 for the season, moving into second place in the AL East standings, 3.5 games behind divisional leaders the Tampa Bay Rays.
Aaron Judge Failed to Provide a Conclusive Update on His Return Timeline
Judge has not indicated when he might return to the lineup. The Yankees’ training staff has not yet cleared him for reimaging his ribs and will not provide a timeline until it is done. On Wednesday, Judge told the media he is frustrated about missing games but stated he must wait for the updated scans to determine the full extent of his recovery.
“That’s one thing that always kills me throughout the year. I hate missing games, but I hate missing them in times where things aren’t going your way. That’s when I want to be out there… You know how it goes around here — guys can feel good, feel bad, but you’ve got to wait on images. I’ll give you a good update when we get some imaging,” Judge said.
As for the Yankees, they will conclude their six-game homestand in the Bronx by hosting the Twins in a three-game series starting Friday.
