Mets star shortstop Francisco Lindor attended Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals between the Knicks and 76ers at Madison Square Garden on Monday night. Lindor, currently on a 10-day injured list, may be sidelined for at least three weeks due to a calf injury, according to MLB insider Anthony DiComo.
For his courtside appearance at MSG, Lindor donned a denim-blue knitwear, paired with baggy red sweatpants, white sneakers, and a black cap featuring a ‘K’ symbol to complete his look. The Knicks then dominated the Sixers, winning the game 137-98 and taking a 1-0 series lead.
Fans quickly noticed Lindor’s appearance during the playoff game and didn’t hesitate to troll the switch-hitter on social media.
“Dresses like a grandma,” one fan commented.
“Begging for attention. Clown show,” another fan commented.
“Is that his wife’s sweater,” yet another fan commented.
Some fans criticized the Puerto Rican player for not traveling with his teammates to Colorado, where the Mets are currently playing a three-game series against the Rockies. Others questioned the role of the clubhouse culture in the deep hole the team has fallen into this season.
“Terrible look for a ‘team leader’ with a calf injury. And I don’t mean the clothes! @Mets just don’t get it,” one fan commented.
“Shouldn’t he be in Colorado supporting the MLB’s worst team? He is walking fine btw,” another fan commented.
“Man is so entitled. He goes to other games while the Mets play,” yet another fan commented.
Carlos Mendoza Reflected on Francisco Lindor’s Return Timeline
Lindor was evidently devastated after landing on the IL due to a left calf strain. “Whenever I have to miss games, it’s super disappointing. It sucks to be on the side, but I’ll be there with them, cheering them on and probably just as nervous as every fan out there as well,” Lindor said.
Reflecting on the extent of his injury and a possible return timeline, compared with Juan Soto’s, who suffered a similar injury at the beginning of the campaign, manager Carlos Mendoza expressed his concerns.
“He’s going to be down quite a bit here. I don’t think we’re anticipating something like we knew right away with Juan that it was kind of like the best-case scenario and it was going to be on the short side of things. I don’t think we’re dealing with the same thing here,” Mendoza said.
The Mets called up infielder Ronny Mauricio from their Triple-A affiliate to replace Lindor on the active roster. The ballclub has started the three-game series at Coors Field with a 4-2 win in Game 1 on Monday night.
