Picking these games straight up with a projected score using the rosters as up-to-date as the last spring practice, how do the Arkansas State predictions look for 2023?
Week 1 – Arkansas State at Oklahoma: Loss, 12-45
There’s no easing into the season for Jones’ team as Arkansas State travels to Norman to face an Oklahoma Sooners team expected to compete for the Big 12 title. Our Arkansas State season predictions kick off with a comprehensive defeat.
Week 2 – Arkansas State vs. Memphis: Loss, 15-27
The Red Wolves have faced the Memphis Tigers in each of the last three seasons, and are currently on a four game losing streak to their AAC opponent. Our Arkansas State season predictions expect that streak to be extended to four games.
Week 3 – Arkansas State vs. Stony Brook: Win, 38-8
Stony Brook hasn’t beaten an FBS team since overcoming Army during the 2012 season and is coming off the back of a 2-9 season. Arkansas State should pick up their first win of the year according to our season predictions for the Red Wolves.
Week 4 – Arkansas State vs. Southern Miss: Loss, 18-22
In a battle of two teams that might not fare too well in the Sun Belt this coming season, Southern Miss edges a close game on the back of talented running back Frank Gore Jr. Arkansas State hasn’t beaten the Golden Eagles since 1977.

Week 5 – Arkansas State at UMass: Win, 31-12
The Red Wolves outgunned the Minutemen last fall, sending UMass back from Jonesboro with a 35-33 defeat. Our Arkansas State season predictions suggest an easier victory when they travel to Hadley in Week 4 of the 2023 college football season.
Week 6 – Arkansas State at Troy: Loss, 9-22
Although Arkansas State holds the head-to-head advantage over their Sun Belt opponent, Troy has won the last two clashes between the two sides. The Trojans figure to be one of the best teams in the conference in 2023, with a defense too good for the Red Wolves to bite through.
Week 8 – Arkansas State vs. Coastal Carolina: Loss, 12-34
The Red Wolves avoided the Chanticleers in 2022, but have given up over 50 points to Coastal Carolina in their previous two meetings.

While the offensive identity under new coach Tim Beck isn’t clear, our Arkansas State season predictions suggest a third consecutive defeat.
Week 9 – Arkansas State at Louisiana-Monroe: Win, 31-20
Although we’re expecting Louisiana-Monroe to be a much-improved team this season, Arkansas State has had the measure of the Warhawks since 2010 and we don’t expect anything to change in the 2023 college football season. The Red Wolves match their Sun Belt win tally from last fall with this win.
Week 10 – Arkansas State vs. Louisiana: Loss, 17-24
The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns had their way with the Red Wolves last fall, extending a win streak over their Sun Belt opponent that stretches back to 2017. Arkansas State should play them closer this fall, but our season predictions still forecast a loss.
Week 11 – Arkansas State at South Alabama: Loss, 13-29
Under Kane Womack, the South Alabama Jaguars have become one of the strongest teams in the Sun Belt. The defense that ranked fourth in the conference for yardage and points allowed last fall should prove too much for the Red Wolves’ offense.
Week 12 – Arkansas State vs. Texas State: Loss, 23-26
Over the last three seasons, Arkansas State and Texas State have played extremely close games — all being decided by three points or less. Our season predictions imagine the same happening again, with a Bobcats team led by former Arkansas QB Malik Hornsby proving too strong for the Red Wolves.
Week 13 – Arkansas State at Marshall: Loss, 18-26
Marshall returns some of their top defensive players for the 2023 college football season, while on offense they boast the best running back in the Sun Belt. It’s a combination that sees the Red Wolves round out the season with a defeat, and our season predictions forecast another 3-9 season under Jones.
