“Looking Like A Union Construction Worker”: Fans Troll Former OSU OC Chip Kelly Over Ryan Field Appearance

After winning a national championship with the Buckeyes in 2024, Chip Kelly took a break from college football to work with the Las Vegas Raiders alongside Pete Carroll. However, Kelly left the pros once again after a disappointing season.

Now, Kelly is back in the Big Ten as the offensive coordinator, alongside Northwestern Wildcats head coach David Braun.

Before Northwestern’s scheduled Media Day on 30th July, Kelly made an appearance in front of the media at Ryan Field, which is currently undergoing renovations ahead of its home season opener against Penn State.

However, Kelly’s appearance wearing a hard hat and a construction vest has drawn hilarious reactions from college football fans.

Anonymous Big Ten Coach ‘Fascinated’ By Chip Kelly’s Northwestern Move

While Chip Kelly’s offensive style doesn’t exactly fit with David Braun’s defensive setup with the Wildcats, an anonymous Big Ten head coach has raised doubts over the move.

In an interview with Athlon Sports, the coach said:

“Everything they’ve built with that team is like this ground-and-pound, man-zone running scheme that you have some play-action off of it.”

“Kelly is run-heavy, and there’s this misconception that he’s been someone who throws it all over the yard,” the coach continued. “He’s not, he’s just a tempo guy, and that’s not their game at all. I don’t think it was a shocking move, but I think it raised some eyebrows.”

In Kelly’s last stint with the Buckeyes, the offense mainly ran through quarterback Will Howard, who finished the season with 4010 yards, while running back Quinshon Judkins added another 1,060 yards of his own in the national championship run.

Northwestern open their season at home against San Diego State on 5th September.
