The Cleveland Browns might be set for another confusing year for the quarterback position as they might select Ty Simpson with the 24th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Shedeur Sanders started the last seven games for the Browns in 2025 and saw some success. However, he showed some glaring weaknesses which makes it to early for him to be declared the starting quarterback.
The Browns currently have Deshaun Watson, Dillon Gabriel and Sanders in their quarterback room and adding Simpson could make things more difficult for the ex-Colorado star.
Talking about the Browns’ potential interest in Simpson, Bleacher Reports’ James Palmer wrote:
“My understanding is yes, they’re looking at both [Malik Willis and Ty Simpson], but they’re also looking at many others. The plan was never, I’m told, to go into 2026 with Shedeur Sanders as the quarterback, and then you look at using Shedeur Sanders throughout all of 2026 as your starting quarterback with nobody else in the room or having no other looks at other quarterbacks.
“Doesn’t mean that Shedeur Sanders won’t be the starter Week 1. I’m not ruling that out. I’m not saying they’re moving on from Shedeur Sanders. I’m just saying they feel like they need a quarterback. They’d like to add a quarterback. We’ll see if they do it, and we’ll see what avenue they go.”
Todd Monken Drops High Praise for Browns QB Shedeur Sanders
Upon Todd Monken’s arrival as the Cleveland Browns’ head coach, he said that while the starting quarterback position is yet to be determined like all the other positions, he is excited about Shedeur Sanders.
During the NFL Combine press conference on Wednesday, Monken praised Sanders’ elite playmaking ability:
“You’ve seen it, we’ve seen it, you saw it in college, you saw it on tape last year. Sure there’s a ways to go, but what rookie isn’t?”
“I’m excited to get started with him and all of our quarterbacks and all of our players.” Monken added.
