How is Ahmad Hardy Doing Now? Missouri RB Status Revealed After Mississippi Concert Shooting

Ahmad Hardy exploded in both the 2024 and 2025 campaigns, but the elite running back suffered an offseason setback after a shooting. Hardy was shot at a concert on early Sunday morning.

According to a statement from Missouri posted on Monday on X, Hardy underwent surgery and is now in stable condition. No additional information was provided, and his return timeline was not announced. The situation appears to remain somewhat fluid.

“Ahmad underwent surgery Sunday in Mississippi and is in stable condition. Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans. We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.”

Hardy’s injury came in the wake of his first season with the Missouri Tigers, his first with the team since transferring from the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks after the 2024 season. Hardy led the Sun Belt in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in 2024 and led the SEC in rushing yards and yards per carry in 2025.

Ahmad Hardy Enters Potential Race Against Time

With Ahmad Hardy now seemingly through the worst but out of action for the foreseeable future, a range of outcomes is possible. On one hand, a quick recovery could get the running back on the gridiron in time for the buildup to the regular season. However, depending on the nature of the wound, it could take him into the regular season to recover.

If it is the former situation, the back should have little to worry about. However, if the wound comes with an extended recovery, Hardy could miss some or all of the season. Even a delay that extends into training camp could force Missouri to fill in the gap with another back.

Once that back gets into games, his production could put Hardy on the back burner. As such, the pressure could be on Hardy to do whatever he can to make sure his recovery goes off without a hitch.

According to Missouri, the team has seven running backs on the roster, including Hardy.
