The wild recruitment saga of Ben’Jarvius Shumaker just took another turn today.
After initially announcing that he was shutting down his recruitment and remaining committed to Ole Miss, the four-star prospect briefly flipped to Colorado. However, on the same day, he reversed his course once again and reaffirmed his commitment to the Rebels.
While Shumaker emphasized family discussions as the main reason for the confusion, many fans speculated that NIL negotiations must have played a role.
“A bigger check arrived,” one fan commented under Shumaker’s post.
Another user posted, “Translation, they paid me more.”
“You’re supposed to let the bidding war finish before you publicly commit,” another fan wrote.
Despite criticism from opposing fanbases, many Ole Miss supporters were quick to back him up.
“Wise decision, young man! Rebel Nation has your back all the way, and Pete Golding is going to make you a star,” one Rebels fan wrote.
Another supporter encouraged Shumaker to ignore the criticism and focus on his future.
“Don’t listen to the hate, the only reason why they will be coming for you is because of where Ole Miss is currently,” one wrote.
Ben’Jarvius Shumaker Opens Up On The Whole Situation
“After careful thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I have decided to remain committed to Ole Miss and officially shut down my recruitment,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I apologize for any confusion that may have come over the last several hours. This process has reaffirmed for me that Ole Miss is where I am meant to be. I believe in the vision for the program, the relationships my family and I have built in Oxford, and the opportunity to develop both on and off the field. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. I am excited for the future, ready to get to work, and proud to call the state of Mississippi and Ole Miss home,” he added.
The announcement gave clarity to fans who were disappointed after learning of his earlier decision.
Pete Golding joined the program on November 30 and quickly helped elevate Ole Miss’s recruiting efforts ahead of the upcoming season. With Shumaker rejoining, the Rebels now hold 17 commitments in their 2027 recruiting class.
It remains to be seen whether Shumaker and Ole Miss made the right decision or not, as both prep for the upcoming season.
