“You Are a Failure and Should Resign”: Fans React As NCAA President Charlie Baker Issues Statement on Brendan Sorsby’s Injunction

Brendan Sorsby faced a ban from the NCAA after reports of his gambling addiction. However, the Texas Tech quarterback sued the organization and got himself an injunction.
Sorsby is now eligible to play in the 2026 college football season, a ruling that received a lot of flak from various fans and analysts.

NCAA president Charlie Baker issued a statement on Saturday saying the Sorsby decision was never about just one student-athlete, highlighting that we’re already seeing downhill effects in other eligibility cases.

Baker pointed to another example, explaining why the sport needs Congress to pass the “Protect College Sports Act.”

College football fans on X reacted to Baker’s statement.

“Yes. It is clear that everyone but a vocal minority of grifters genuinely wants a clear demarcation between college athletics and professional sports. Congressional intervention is no longer just an option. It is mandatory,” one fan reacted.

“No solution can include the NCAA surviving & being part of the College Athletics ecosystem. NCAA is who ran the ship aground,” another fan said.

“You are a failure and should resign,” another fan wrote.

“Any with half a brain know this isn’t just about him, the rule is a deterrent to ALL players against doing what he already did..A LOT. TxT wants to act like its only about him cause they only care about wins he brings, but him playing shows ALL that there are no consequences,” another fan added.

“Do you think Sorsby was the first injunction granted? I understand you have no power but Sorsby was FAR from the first person to exploit this. ie. Chambliss. And MANY more,” another fan pointed out.

“But Texas Tech fans (and Alabama MBB fans before that) told me that this would help us by collapsing the system and leading to real change? Where is the change, cactus boys? I’m only seeing things get worse!” another fan questioned.

Sorsby admitted to betting on his own teams over four years across Indiana, Cincinnati, and Texas Tech. He apparently placed over 9,000 bets totaling $90,000.

Analyst Weighs In on Brendan Sorsby’s NFL Future Amid Gambling Case

Sportscaster Kirk Herbstreit was asked by NFL Network host Rich Eisen about Brendan Sorsby’s NFL future: whether he enters the supplemental NFL draft or goes directly to the 2027 NFL draft.

The analyst shared that while some head coaches, like Todd Monken, have made it clear that the gambling situation is a problem, he doesn’t believe it would be a big one, as Sorsby is a first-round talent.

Herbstreit added that if Sorsby entered the supplemental draft, he would go high, as it would give the team more opportunities in the 2027 draft.

Talking about what would happen if Sorsby enters the 2027 draft directly, Herbstreit said:

“In my opinion, the NFL, whenever he comes out, most likely now in the 2027 draft, we’ll be peeling back all the layers of this.”

Herbstreit also said he doesn’t anticipate any impact on his draft stock if he plays as he does.
