WWE Star Trick Williams Mentions Gamecocks Star Rajon Rondo While Throwing Final Four Challenge to Dawn Staley

WWE superstar Trick Williams recently revealed his pick for the upcoming NCAA Final Four matchup, which is a rematch of last year’s national championship game. On Friday, April 3, coach Dawn Staley‘s South Carolina Gamecocks will meet coach Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies, this time for a spot in the national championship game.

In a video posted by First Take on ESPN’s X/Twitter, Williams, who appeared as a guest, was asked about his picks for the highly anticipated matchup. He asserted that he has always been a Gamecocks fan, and compared South Carolina senior Raven Johnson to NBA legend Rajon Rondo, while giving coach Staley a challenge for the game.

“Come on, Raven. You already know. She from Westlake, man. She from Georgia. And she, she reminds me of a young Rajon Rondo because she controls the tempo. She controls the offense. She goes and gets those rebounds when she needs to,” Williams said about Johnson. (0:41)

“ I am scared of UConn. But, look, I ain’t stupid. I ain’t stupid. But, I’m gonna tell you the difference. This is the difference. UConn beat us last year in the Final Four, and if Dawn Staley is who I believe she is, she ain’t going out like that two years in a row. Geno, we know what’s up,” he added.

With Williams pledging his allegiance to the Gamecocks and even praising Johnson, there will presumably be more onlookers spectating the Gamecocks-Huskies matchup. The game is set to be on neutral grounds, the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Arizona. It will be the first time the two squads will clash since their 2025 national title game, where UConn won.

Trick Williams Believes South Carolina Gamecocks Guard Joyce Edwards Is The X-Factor

In the same interview, Trick Williams opined that South Carolina Gamecocks sophomore Joyce Edwards will be the X-factor that will lead her team to victory against the Huskies.

Williams spoke highly of Edwards and placed her above her rival, second-year standout Sarah Strong of the UConn Huskies. The NXT star then brought up Edwards’ background as to why she is gifted.

“ So when we talk about the South Carolina Gamecocks, you got to put some respect on the name, and you will put respect on the South Carolina Gamecocks name because we have Joyce Edwards. The greatest sophomore in the game today. And I know they got Sarah Strong on the other side. I understand she’s leading UConn with all five categories, but Joseph Edwards is country-fed, you know what I’m saying?” Williams shared. (0:04)

“Eating ham hocks and chitterlings and everything. She from the low country at South Carolina. She got too much size, too much muscle,” he continued.
