Dawn Staley is among the most renowned female college basketball head coaches, having led the South Carolina Gamecocks to three national championships and nine SEC championships. Staley is now reportedly in the mix for the Mavericks’ head coaching job.
Talking about the possibility of the Mavericks hiring Staley, podcaster Jimmy Crowther of All Things Mavs said that while she is one of the most decorated WNBA players of all time and a prestigious head coach, it would be too big a gamble.
Jimmy further pointed out that transitioning from a college head coach to an NBA head coach is a big gamble and getting a women’s college head coach to the league would be an even bigger risk.
Fans reacted to Jimmy’s comments:
“All y’all fried… @dawnstaley would kill with the mavericks as the head coach.. And you could bet she’d bring in @BeckyHammon ✌🏻 y’all tweaking frfr💪🏾,” one fan reacted.
“I’m all for the interview so we can prod her mind but she needs NBA coaching experience before I actually consider it,” another fan shared their thoughts.
“Don’t do this to my team. Men’s and women’s basketball are almost entirely different sports,” another fan pleaded.
“Ill say it. She can not relate to a bunch of dudes and a bunch of dudes can’t relate to her. The coaching staff would have to be well assembled to cover that,” another fan pointed out.
“Yeah no disrespect to her coaching abilities but we all know how nba fans act towards women and I think Flagg has had his fair share of bs to put up with already,” another fan added.
”This would be an embarrassing hire,” another fan wrote.
