Azzi Fudd has made heads turn in her five years with Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies. Despite a lot of breaks in her college basketball career due to multiple injuries, she always proved why she was rated so highly. And when she came back to full fitness, she ended up winning the national championship and becoming the first WNBA draft pick next year.
Just like many other stars, Azzi Fudd had the honor of being called up at the Curry Camp. Stephen Curry has always helped young stars find their game and train in his basketball camps. There are numerous NBA and WNBA players who first caught the eye in the Curry Camps. Azzi Fudd was one of the stars whom Stephen Curry worked closely with.
Recently, Azzi Fudd invited Stephen Curry on her podcast, “Fudd Around and Find Out”. Over the course of last few years, there is a close bond between Stephen Curry and Azzi Fudd. She really sees Curry as a mentor and models her game around his. She is also very close to his family. Wife Ayesha, and kids have always kept Fudd in the warmest regards. During the latest episode of the podcast, Stephen Curry recalled the first interaction with Fudd and also how she has become a “babysitter” for his son Canon.
“It was a very special time in my journey in terms of what the select camp actually meant. I had been with UA for four years at that point and we had had like this really tight roster of all young men who were coming in the ranks looking to work on their skills. And we had this idea obviously of, you know, how can we make this better and more representative of what basketball looks like,” Curry remembered.
“You [Azzi Fudd] and Cam Brink come in walking into Walnut Creek, California in the gym and as the first two female Perry Select campers and one I noticed just your confidence walking into the room,” Curry said. “It felt like one you’re ready to work and you’re willing to do any and everything that we asked of you, but two, it was like you could tell the talent and the skill and the dedication to the game immediately.”

After recalling his first impression of Azzi Fudd, Steph continued to talk about how Fudd has grown over the years. He expressed pride over how she is now paving the way for so many athletes behind her. Steph also talked about how close his son Canon is with her.
“Now as a counselor coming in and hanging out with Canon. You’re like part counselor, part babysitter when you come in now. Cause, that’s all he’s looking for is where’s Azzi at?” Steph said.
Azzi replied and said how she and Canon are friends if he remembers her. And Steph replied that he definitely does.
