“Before therapy, I had never felt comfortable talking to anyone other than my mom about really deep and personal things,” Betts said. “With her… that’s my safe space.”
Michelle and Andy, Lauren’s father, later got divorced, but continued to co-parent closely, ensuring that their children had stability while pursuing their athletic dreams.
Who is Lauren Betts’ father?
Lauren Betts’ father Andy Betts was a professional basketball player. He played college basketball at Long Beach State, then he was selected in the second round of the 1998 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets.
However, most of his career was built overseas. He spent over a decade playing across Europe, including stints in Spain, Italy, Greece, and Ukraine. His career highlights include winning the EuroCup and multiple domestic league titles, while also representing both England and Great Britain internationally.
“Before I ever picked up a ball, I was just a little kid following my dad around Europe,” she said.
That exposure to the game and different cultures has helped shape her early development. Betts’ sister, Sienna, also plays at UCLA, while her younger brother Dylan has already been invited to USA Basketball junior national team camps.
