When Will Chloe Kitts Be Back? Dawn Staley Provides Update on South Carolina Star’s Return

Chloe Kitts had been dealing with an issue that only the best athletes get to face. Kitts, having already played three years in college basketball, including winning a championship, is deciding whether it’s time to leave her school behind for the professional leagues as she missed the entire year with an ACL injury.

According to women’s basketball reporter Lulu Kesin in a Wednesday report on X, a list of senior night participants revealed their intentions for next season. Head coach Dawn Staley confirmed Kitts would be returning as well.

“Dawn Staley confirmed Chloe Kitts will be back next year,” she posted. “Tomorrow is senior night for South Carolina and Chloe isn’t listed as one of four walking/being honored”

Kitts’ return would make it her fourth year of college basketball. It will be an opportunity to improve on her ascending metrics after missing an entire year.

Chloe Kitts’ Production In 2024 and 2025

Kitts’ time with the South Carolina Gamecocks began in 2022, but it was clear that her performance in her freshman season wasn’t the full story. Kitts saw seemingly every metric jump after the 2022 season by a wide margin. In 2023, it jumped again but by a smaller margin.

In 2023, Kitts averaged 9.1 points per game, well up from 1.6 points per game as a freshman. In the 2024-25 season, her production hit double-digits with 10.2 points per game. She has failed to finish as the No. 1 scorer on her team in any of the three seasons so far, which might be the reason for her return.

In other words, if she can’t lead her college team, her odds of making a big dent in the WNBA are notably slim.

Additionally, her field-goal percentage dropped to .520 from .544, which leaves some room for improvement to finish her college career on top. A second championship wouldn’t hurt, if South Carolina can win it all once again.
