South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley reacted to her senior player Raven Johnson’s recent performance. On Tuesday, Feb. 24, the official Gamecocks women’s basketball page on X/Twitter uploaded an infographic that highlights Johnson in the middle and some of her defensive statistics all around her.
These statistics include the impact Johnson is having against ranked teams in the nation. If she is on the court, the opposition teams hold 38% field goal percentage and average .706 points per possession. Along with this, Johnson’s statistics against the top 10 scorers of the season in the SEC have been shared, and there’s a significant jump when she is guarding them versus when she is not.
With this, Staley reposted the graphic on her own X/Twitter page with a hyped-up message that indicates how important Johnson is to the success of the Gamecocks this year and beyond. Along with this, the 55-year-old summarized Johnson as an “elite defender,” as Staley also included a trio of emojis to further emphasize how proud she is of her graduating standout. Staley also said that Johnson is elite on offense.
“RAVEN JOHNSON!!! We know how much she means to our team and we are just showing you one side of the ball! ELITE DEFENDER!!! 🥰🥰🥰,” Staley wrote.
Johnson is currently in her fifth and final year of collegiate hoops in the 2025-26 campaign. She has spent all of her tenure under the tutelage of Staley and the South Carolina-based program. The current Gamecocks squad is aiming to win its third national title in the last five years, as Johnson was a part of the 2022 and 2024 national championship-winning squads.
Last season, the 2024-25 Gamecocks lost to the UConn Huskies by 23 points, 82-59, in the national championship game.
South Carolina Gamecocks Are Currently On An Eight-Game Winning Streak
As it stands, the South Carolina Gamecocks are on an eight-game winning streak.
In their most recent game, they defeated coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin’s Ole Miss Rebels by a staggering 37 points, 85-48, on their home floor, the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina, to continue with said winning streak and even take home the 2026 SEC regular season title.
The Gamecocks possess an overall record of 27-2 (13-1 SEC), and have been the leaders of their conference play thus far.
