What Does “CBG” Stand for in Ta’Niya Latson’s Instagram Name? Gamecocks Star Explains Childhood Connection

Like many college players, South Carolina Gamecocks star Ta’Niya Latson has a unique Instagram handle name with special meaning attached to it. Latson’s Instagram handle is @cbgtaniya.

Many wonder what the acronym “CBG” stands for. Let’s check out.

What Does “CBG” Stand for in Ta’Niya Latson’s Instagram Name?

“CBG” in Ta’Niya Latson’s Instagram handle stands for “Certified Bucket Getters.” According to Latson, when she was in “8th, 7th grade, we all had this… I don’t know, we just had this group chat with all the bucket getters across the nation.” The group included names like Jada Williams, Sequoia Allman, and Angelica from Syracuse.

“It was a lot of us. I feel like we just kept the name and it was like a little group, and we had our own Instagram page. We had fans, and it was just a lot of bucket getters basically, and I’ve always kept that name,” Latson said.

Though there have been no posts made on that group’s Instagram page, Latson has continued to carry the acronym before her name in her Instagram handle.

“I mean, it’s a mentality,” Latson added. I feel like we all were bucket getters and we loved each other. We talked almost every day at one point. So yeah, it was just something that I’ve always kept by my name, and I know a couple others did too.”

Ta’Niya Latson is currently in the middle of the NCAA Tournament with the Gamecocks, hoping to get back to the championship game. In the recent second round against the USC Trojans, Latson played 32 minutes for 12 points, three rebounds, five assists and four steals. She shot 50% from the field.

For the season, she is averaging 14.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 30 games played and 28.2 minutes per game on the floor. This is her fourth and final season, following which she will declare for the WNBA draft. When that happens, she’d like to call herself a national champion.
