John Calipari expressed pride after three former Arkansas players were selected in the NBA draft.
The Sacramento Kings selected Darius Acuff Jr with the No. 7 pick. Meleek Thomas was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 34th pick, while Trevon Brazile went to the San Denver Nuggets one selection later.
Calipari celebrated Brazile’s selection on X.
“TB!!!!!!! Couldn’t be happier for Trevon and his family! The @nuggets are getting an incredible athlete!” Calipari posted.
He also shared a message for Thomas and his family.
“Let’s gooooo! Congratulations to Meleek and his family! @cavs got a STEAL!” Calipari said.
The Arkansas head coach shared another post to celebrate all three players.
“Congratulations to Darius, Meleek, and Trevon!! I think all three of our players will outplay and outperform their draft positions. They were all great teammates, they were unselfish, played to win and the sky is the limit for all three. They are on different paths but they are going to get the same results. Go do this!!” Calipari tweeted.
How would Darius Acuff Jr, Meleek Thomas and Trevon Brazile fit in their respective teams?
Acuff proved to be an elite scorer during his only season with Arkansas. He averaged 23.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists. He is expected to elevate Sacramento’s offense and add quality to its backcourt. He is also a proven playmaker with three-point shooting capability.
Thomas, meanwhile, is expected to provide the Cleveland Cavaliers with some backcourt depth and another scoring option. He averaged 15.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in his freshman season with Arkansas.
Brazile is expected to provide the Denver Nuggets with frontcourt depth and defensive versatility. He averaged 13.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.6 blocks last season with Arkansas.
