UConn Women’s Basketball Recruitment Makes Major Splash With Verbal Commit From French Star

Geno Auriemma’s UConn women’s basketball earned a new commitment from an international basketball star. The Huskies are getting ready to start their summer workouts in the next few weeks.

The new addition comes from French guard Marine Dursus. She announced her verbal commitment to UConn on Friday. Dursus made a joint Instagram post with UConn women’s basketball.

“Taking the next step … see you soon UConn #uconnwbb #huskies #committed,” she wrote.

It’s unclear when Dursus will join the UConn Huskies. While the fans will have to wait for more details to emerge, Dursus is a talented athlete who can help the Huskies elevate their game next season.

She averaged 9.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists for French League Club Angers this season. Some reports suggest that she will join the team this fall.

The Huskies had a great run last season. They went on an unbeaten 38-game streak to reach the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament. Geno Auriemma’s team was considered unbeatable at that point, but they met the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Final Four.

The Huskies started the game strong and had an eight-point lead at halftime. The Gamecocks came in with a different energy in the second half and handed a crushing 48-62 loss to Auriemma’s team.

The aftermath of that loss received more media and fan attention than the game itself because Geno Auriemma and Dawn Staley got into a heated verbal exchange at the final buzzer. Auriemma was scrutinized for his lack of sportsmanship.

The two veteran coaches ended up having a conversation where Auriemma apologized to Staley, and they sorted things out. However, the fans weren’t as forgiving.

Shannon Sharpe Called Geno Auriemma a “Sore Loser”

After Staley and Auriemma’s heated exchange made national headlines, Shannon Sharpe and his crew discussed the issue on an episode of Nightcap. The NFL legend trashed Auriemma for his actions.

“This is, I thought I was gonna win, I was supposed to win, and I got beat. That’s what this was about. This was a sore loser. Ain’t about no damn handshake,” he said.

Sharpe’s co-host Joe Johnson also chimed in and called out Auriemma.

“Bro, for you to get in her face like that and talk stuff to her after the game. Man, just congratulate her and move on,” he said.

Johnson said that the South Carolina players deserved to have their moment as they outplayed one of the strongest teams, and Auriemma took the spotlight away from them over something that wasn’t necessary.
