UCLA has qualified for its second consecutive Final Four. Lauren Betts led the Bruins to a win over Duke in the Elite Eight. Head coach Cori Close has brought a winning mentality to the UCLA Bruins.
UCLA has been formidable over the last two seasons. This season, they were on another level. UCLA lost only one game all season, and interestingly, that loss came against their Final Four opponent, Texas.
Betts has been the face of the UCLA Bruins for a while now. She has solidified her position as one of the best players in college basketball. After a tough start to her college career at Stanford, she found her home with the Bruins. Betts once again was the star of the show when she scored 23 points with 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 blocks in their 70-58 Elite Eight win.
In doing so, she achieved a special feat that no one had done since the 2012 national championship.
Lauren Betts is the first player to score at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks in a game in the Elite Eight or later since basketball legend Brittney Griner in 2012. Her 23, 10, 5 came very close to Griner’s memorable 26 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 blocks against Notre Dame in the NCAA tournament final. Griner won the national championship that year. Can Lauren Betts lead UCLA to glory?
