Sarah Strong is a name fans have been hearing for about two years now. She has been one of the brightest talents in college basketball ever since Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers, and Azzi Fudd came around. The UConn star has shown why she belongs among the elite names.
Ever since she committed to Geno Auriemma’s program, there has been a lot of excitement to watch her play. As for Geno, one can only assume that he immediately knew that this player was here to create history. In her freshman year, Sarah helped Bueckers and Fudd win the national title. She averaged 16.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in her freshman season. She immediately had Auriemma’s trust with her.
Going into her sophomore year, Geno was ready to transform Sarah into a leader, and that’s what he did. Fudd and Sarah led the UConn Huskies unbeaten season and are now in the Final Four. Sarah has quickly started to enter the Huskies’ history books. She recently became the only player as a sophomore in UConn history to record 600+ points and 100+ steals in a single season. Now she has entered a list of elite names and is on the precipice of breaking another record.
Sarah Strong now has the most 20-point games in the first 2 seasons of UConn history. With another dominating display against Notre Dame in the Elite Eight, where UConn won 70-52, she surpassed Maya Moore, who has 30 games, and tied Breanna Stewart with 31. It is only a matter of time before she crosses Stewie as well. With the Final Four and a possible NCAA tournament final to go, Sarah just might become the leader of this brilliant UConn record.
UConn Huskies Outshine Notre Dame
Geno Auriemma was suspected of playing some mind games by the fans when he was complimenting Hannah Hidalgo and Notre Dame in the pre-match press conference. Although Hidalgo and Notre Dame are fully worthy of all the praise, fans predicted that UConn would again dominate Notre Dame and win by a huge margin. That’s exactly what happened.
Hidalgo sparked a fire in her teammates and showed vigilance when she said they have learnt from the first UConn defeat. However, the fate did not change, and UConn proved again why they are at another level. The game ended comfortably in UConn’s favor, as they won 70-52.
Hidalgo was once again probably the best player on the court. She ended up with a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. However, it wasn’t enough in front of the mighty Huskies. Sarah Strong had 21 points with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Azzi Fudd ended up with 13 points, and another star who stepped up today was Blanca Quinonez. She had 20 points and 8 rebounds, which guided UConn to a dominant 18-point victory.
