Texas Longhorns guard Rori Harmon issued a stern message during her post-game courtside interview after her team proved that it is the top team in its conference.
On Sunday, March 8, Harmon and the rest of coach Vic Schaefer’s Longhorns defeated coach Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks 78-61 to win the 2026 SEC tournament championship game on neutral grounds, the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.
During her post-game interview, Harmon was asked to comment on Schaefer previously saying that his team has to bring an edge to win. The Longhorns got off to a blazing hot start in the first quarter, and they did not look back en route to winning the conference championship. Harmon then said that winning was the only option.
“Losing is not an option. Losing is not an option. Don’t step on the court if you’re not ready to win,” Harmon said.
“Two of South Carolina’s three losses this season came against Texas,” @justwomenssports on Instagram captioned.
Texas went on to defeat the Gamecocks by an impressive 17 points, 78-61, in what many are deeming an upset win. Harmon and company’s victory serves as the first time that a Texas-based program won the SEC tournament title for women’s basketball, as they look to make further history by winning the NCAA title as well.
For South Carolina, their dominance of the conference ends momentarily after three straight tournament championships.
Rori Harmon Believes That Her Team Stepped Up To Vic Schaefer’s Previous Call To Them
In the same interview following the 2026 SEC tournament title win, Rori Harmon was asked about her team having to prove Vic Schaefer and the rest of the college basketball world wrong after Schaefer previously called them out for lacking heart.
For Harmon, she believes that her coach said that just as a wake-up call, one that they answered to in the SEC winner-take-all game.
“You take that. You take what he says. That’s Vic Schaefer’s telling you that you don’t have no part in that game. But, we did tonight, and I think that’s how we responded today. So, I’m really proud of my team,” Harmon shared.
