Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies have been firing on all cylinders this season. They finished the regular season unbeaten and now have reached the Sweet 16 for a record 32nd consecutive time. Many believed their level would decline after their marquee star, Paige Bueckers, left for the WNBA last year. However, somehow, they have found another gear.
They are 20 games unbeaten in the Big East and 36-0 overall. Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong have been the major contributors for the UConn Huskies this season. Fudd has been averaging 17.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3 assists in 36 games. Sarah, on the other hand, has averaged 18.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists this season.
Sarah won the prestigious USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Year award, along with the Big East Player of the Year, Big East Defensive Player of the Year, and Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors.
Fudd won the Big East women’s basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. She is also included on the watch lists for the Naismith Trophy, Wooden Award, and Ann Meyers Drysdale Award. Now the UConn Huskies are gearing up for the Sweet 16. And one of their legends has joined them to show her support.
Paige Bueckers attended the Huskies practice ahead of their Sweet 16 game against the North Carolina Tar Heels, to be played on Friday. She reshared a picture with coach Geno Auriemma and dropped a two-word comment, writing, “Evil twin.”
