Kim Mulkey Shows Support for MiLaysia Fulwiley And Mikayla Williams As LSU Lead Team USA to Historic Feat

LSU Tigers coach Kim Mulkey had two of her players participate in this year’s FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series. Mikaylah Williams and MiLaysia Fulwiley put up impressive performances to help Team USA secure back-to-back stop titles this year.

Mulkey took to social media to congratulate Team USA on their thrilling victory. In her Instagram story, she shared a photo of the players while tagging both Fulwiley and Williams. The LSU coach accompanied it with three heart-shaped emojis.

Last Saturday, Team USA won one title during the tournament in Chengdu. On Friday, they established themselves as back-to-back title champions after a 17-15 overtime victory over Lithuania in Manila. Mikaylah Williams was honored as the MVP after scoring six points in the finale.

Both Mikaylah Williams and MiLaysia Fulwiley completed their third year at the collegiate level last season. Kim Mulkey helped the team finish with a 29-6 (12-4 SEC) record. They qualified for March Madness, but were eliminated by the Duke Blue Devils in the Sweet 16.

Mikaylah Wiliams joined the LSU Tigers out of high school in 2023. She signed with Kim Mulkey’s team over offers from programs like Ole Miss, Duke, Texas A&M and Baylor. In 35 games last season, the 2024 SEC Freshman of the Year averaged 14.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.

On the other hand, MiLaysia Fulwiley spent the first two seasons of her collegiate career with South Carolina. She won her first national championship with the program as a freshman. Last season, in 35 games, she averaged 14.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg and 3.5 apg.

Kim Mulkey shuts down rumors of retirement

Before their Sweet 16 loss to Duke, reports started surfacing that Kim Mulkey was considering retirement after the end of the season.

However, the LSU coach quickly shut down this narrative in the postgame presser.

“I’m not retiring,” Mulkey said as per NOLA.com. “I don’t know where that came from. I’m only 63, and I’m healthy with a few stents in my heart; my doctors say I’m good to go. I have no clue where that stuff comes from. I’ve never, ever told anybody that.

“I’m going to be in this game unless LSU fires me, OK? Until I can’t put a product on that floor that’s competitive or my health falls me. So I would appreciate all of you in here, whoever put that out, if you know who they are, you need to stop it when you see it, because it’s just a flat-out lie.”

Kim Mulkey began her coaching career as an assistant at Louisiana Tech in 1985. In five seasons with the LSU Tigers, she’s put up a 151-26 overall record and led them to a national title during the 2022-23 season.
