Kim Caldwell Responds to Andraya Carter’s Heavy Criticism With Honest Assessment of Tennessee’s Issues

Tennessee Lady Volunteers coach Kim Caldwell recently agreed with the criticism by a former player of the program, Andraya Carter, about the state of the team. On Thursday, Feb. 26, Caldwell and the Lady Volunteers lost 73-89 to Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers on the latter’s home court, the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

During the post-game press conference, Caldwell was asked about her thoughts on the comments Carter made about the Lady Volunteers, which were tremendously critical. In a clip posted by collegiate hoops reporter Emilie Rae Cochrane on her X/Twitter account, Caldwell acknowledged it as a valid assessment of her program.

“I haven’t made a comment yet. I think that it’s fair for the most critical people of this program to be the people who have built this program. And, it’s hard for me to get upset with a lot of critique when I’m my biggest critic, and I know that things aren’t going the way that they need to be going. And I’m not leaving work every day, happy and satisfied and patting myself on the back. No one in our program is,” Caldwell said.

“We have a program full of love, we have a program full of honesty, and we know that, and I think that that’s why they’ve been able to be so resilient through this,” she continued.

Unfortunately for Caldwell and the rest of the Lady Volunteers faithful, they faltered against the Tigers, despite trailing by one point at halftime, in front of a hostile LSU crowd. The struggles for the Tennessee-based program continue under Caldwell, as they now possess an overall record of 16-11 (8-7 SEC).

Andraya Carter Was Critical Of How Coach Kim Caldwell’s Program Handled Finances

In a video posted by @CollegeGameDay on X/Twitter on Sunday, Feb. 22, Andraya Carter’s comments on coach Kim Caldwell and the 2025-26 Tennessee Lady Volunteers went public.

Being a former player on the team, Carter has a lot of passion and hopes that her team does better. For her, it starts with finding a system that all players can buy in to.
