Duke Blue Devils coach Kara Lawson respectfully ignored a question about LSU Tigers guard Flau’jae Johnson during a recent interview.
On Friday, March 27, coach Lawson and her Blue Devils will face Johnson and the rest of Coach Kim Mulkey’s Tigers in the Sweet 16 of the March Madness on neutral grounds, the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California.
In a video uploaded by reporter Mike Scarborough to his X/Twitter account on Thursday, Lawson was addressing a pre-game press conference. A reporter asked her about Johnson, given that she coached the young talent with the Team USA Women’s squad last year. Lawson dismissed the question by saying that she had already answered it in December.
“ You obviously have familiarity with LSU and Flau’jae Johnson as well. What do you remember about coaching her over the summer with Team USA, and how do you think, as her coach, you helped her manage those stretches in which she maybe wasn’t playing as much as she hoped she would?” the reporter asked.
“Yeah, I think I answered that back in December. You can go and look at those comments. Thank you,” Lawson said.
The reason Lawson was asked about Johnson is that she coached the player with the Team USA Women’s squad that competed in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup last year. Their relationship was affected, as Johnson did not get enough minutes under Lawson. Nevertheless, the team ended up winning it all with a 94-92 victory in the championship game against Brazil.
The LSU Tigers Previously Defeated The Duke Blue Devils In The 2025-26 Season
The LSU Tigers faced the Duke Blue Devils during non-conference play in the 2025-26 season. In that game, Flau’jae Johnson was visibly pumped as she was going up against coach Kara Lawson’s team.
With this, the senior ended up scoring a game-high 18 points, to go with five rebounds, three assists, and a block to lead LSU to a 16-point victory (93-77) over Lawson and the Blue Devils in away territory.
