JuJu Watkins has struggled with injuries lately, but it appears her confidence is high heading into another year with the USC Trojans, and it seems it isn’t just her teammates, coaches and fans that are excited to have her back.
Across the state of California, bitter rivals UCLA have something to say too, with their head coach Cori Close now responding to Watkins’ comments on her.
“I really have lots of respect and appreciation for JuJu Watkins,” Close said.
“She makes me a better coach and she helps grow our great game. Can’t wait to have her back on the hardwood.”
The praise from Close comes soon after JuJu was asked about her impressions of Cori Close’s team, who bucked the odds and won the NCAA Championship against Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks recently.
“I would say congrats. They’re coming off a national title. So yeah I would say congrats, keep it at that,” Watkins said.
JuJu Watkins Raring to Go After Long Lay-off
A horrific torn right ACL injury kept JuJu Watkins away from showing off her true potential in the 2025-26 season, but lots of rehab and preparation later, she seems nearly ready to return to the big time again.
She was easily the best player on court for the USC Trojans before her untimely injury took her out in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, and fans of the program will hope she can get back to her old self and deliver the goods once again.
