“Unacceptable; It’s Wrong”: Loss to Geno Auriemma’s UConn Draws Scathing Reaction from Syracuse HC Felisha Legette-Jack

Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies have certainly been one of the, if not the best, teams in college basketball. UConn has not lost a single game this season, and it might make history if it goes on to win the national championship undefeated. The Huskies will also be making history by winning back-to-back NCAA titles.

After Paige Bueckers got drafted to the WNBA last year, there were doubts about UConn’s form and success. However, they have upped their level this season. As Azzi Fudd led the Huskies this season, Auriemma’s team has been performing exceptionally. Sarah Strong has improved in her sophomore year after an already impressive freshman season.

KK Arnold has also stepped up whenever the team has needed her. UConn won its latest game against Syracuse to qualify for the Sweet 16. This was UConn’s third NCAA Tournament game against Syracuse in five years. The Huskies have been victorious in all three. Syracuse suffered elimination in 2021, 2024, and now 2026 after a loss to UConn. Syracuse head coach Felisha Legette-Jack was not happy about that.

“Somebody said, ‘Is there something that they might have against me if that’s the case?’ And we need to communicate about that. But for us to be what we’ve done in our body of work to have to come and play the best team in the country, I mean, Geno has this thing going, and I love what he’s done, but I thought deserved a little more respect after being in his business for 37 years,” Felisha said.

“And to have to come and be in this particular bracket every freaking year is unacceptable. It’s wrong. It’s somebody, and if you’re on a committee and you’ve been around for more than a year or two or five to 10 or 15 years, you understand what that looks like. I’ve been on those committees to see how it’s done, how you can put people on different lines, put us on a get a 10 line, get whatever,” she continued.

“But for us to continue to come to Connecticut year after year after year is, to me, a personal attack because I just think that we are way better than what we perform today. But I think what you’re going to notice is that everybody who comes through Geno and UConn is going to get the raft of what they can bring. I just know this team right here could’ve had a strong chance of getting beyond this particular level,” she said.

“And I am hoping that I’m not disrespecting anyone. I’m hoping that I’m not bringing shame to Syracuse by crying spilled milk. But after a while, I’ve never said anything in this kind of light before. A lot of people are talking about rev share people. I just want the young people who are in my locker room to have a fighting chance. And I am grateful to be in the NCAA tournament,” Coach Felisha concluded.

Fans React to Syracuse HC Felisha Legette-Jack’s Rant After UConn Loss

Felisha was unfiltered and did not mince her words while expressing what she felt after Syracuse’s brutal 98-45 loss to UConn in the NCAA Tournament. She may have used an accusatory tone, but made sure she did not disrespect anyone with her statement. Nevertheless, fans did not like how she reacted to the loss.

“Y’all lost by 40, maybe you should just get better. If you want to win it you’re gunna have to beat UConn eventually,” one fan replied.

“Lost by 50. You’re not that good. Your message is that you want to play a lesser team to get a participation trophy. This is a loser mentality, no wonder you lost by FIFTY,” another fan commented.

“This is the softest rant I’ve ever heard from a head coach in my life. Holy sh*t,” another fan claimed.

“As a Siena fan, we could hardly wait to get our chance at Duke. If you don’t want to play and beat the best, then maybe basketball isn’t your sport. Yoga or running or something else might fit better,” another stated.

“Losing by 53 isn’t because of a home court advantage. HOWEVER, I do think these top teams starting off at home is strangely ridiculous,” one fan said.
