Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies and Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers have emerged as two of the most dominant powerhouses in NCAA basketball. Both teams have shown their championship calibre in recent years and have churned out some of the best stars currently playing in the WNBA. Every time these two giants face each other, it’s a feast for fans.
UConn legend and analyst Rebecca Lobo has confirmed a fixture between LSU and UConn in the 2026-27 season, to be held in Nashville at the Bridgestone Arena. This matchup will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. It’s not always that college basketball teams get the privilege of having their games broadcast nationally. The LSU-UConn game is one of the most anticipated fixtures in next year’s schedule.
Kim Mulkey is now in her fifth season as the head coach of LSU, but this will be the first time she will be facing off against Geno Auriemma’s Huskies with the Tigers. Auriemma and Mulkey clashed nine times when she was the head coach of Baylor, with UConn holding a 5-4 advantage in the series.
This includes UConn beating Baylor twice in the NCAA Tournament. Both teams have great players, such as Sarah Strong of UConn and MiLaysia Fulwiley of LSU, who are expected to lead their respective teams. This makes this fixture one of the best non-conference games to look forward to in the 2026-27 campaign.
How Have UConn & LSU Fared Against Each Other?
The Huskies have dominated their all-time head-to-head series against LSU, commanding a massive 8-1 advantage. The rivalry was most active between 2006 and 2016, especially when Geno Auriemma ensured he led his team to victory almost every single time.
LSU’s only victory against the Huskies came in the 2007 NCAA Elite Eight, where the Tigers, led by Sylvia Fowles, beat the Huskies 73-50, denying them a trip to the Final Four. Since the upset, UConn has rattled off a winning streak against the Tigers, with their last meeting in Baton Rouge ending in a decisive 76-53 victory in 2016.
Both teams have won a championship in 2023 and 2025, respectively. While the teams have not clashed in the Mulkey era with LSU yet, this end to the hiatus adds more excitement to the next season.
