Gabriela Jaquez and the UCLA Bruins face the South Carolina Gamecocks for the National Championship on Sunday. It’s the biggest game of the year, and both teams will go all guns blazing to claim the title.
The Gamecocks have won the national title three times so far. Their last championship win was in 2024. The Bruins, on the other hand, are still searching for their first national title.
The Bruins are going to need all the support they can get, and Jaquez’s brother, Jaime Jaquez Jr., is doing his part. A video of Jaime urging fans to rally behind the Bruins was posted on X by Big Ten Women’s Basketball.
“We’re here in Phoenix, Arizona. Here to support for the National Championship,” he said. “I need to see you guys out there at the game. Everyone, support, Go Bruins, our girls need us.”
Jaime is a former Bruin who was picked in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft and plays for the Miami Heat. On Saturday, he scored a career-high 32 points against the Washington Wizards, and then he booked a flight to Phoenix to watch his sister.
Gabriela joined the UCLA Bruins in 2022, and she has made tremendous progress over the last four seasons. This season, she is averaging 13.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting over 53% from the field, including 38.7% from the three-point line.
She ranks third in scoring for the Bruins and has logged the second-most minutes on the team. At the time of reporting, the Bruins were leading 16-10 with over three minutes left in the first quarter.
Gabriela Jaquez’s Brother Was Excited for the Final
The Bruins playing in the final is extra special for Jaime, who represented the team during his college career. The Miami Heat star is excited to see his sister compete for the national title.
“It’s going to be pretty epic,” he said on the Heat broadcast. “I’m really happy for my sister and her team. They’re playing so hard as a group of seniors who’ve been there for a very long time, so this is their moment right now, and just going to go support.”
A win tonight will put the Bruins players’ names in the college basketball history books.
