LSU Tigers guard Flau’jae Johnson‘s mother is getting flak from fans for a recent rant, in which she called out a couple of rival programs. On Saturday, Feb. 14, Johnson and the rest of coach Kim Mulkey’s 2025-26 Tigers lost 79-72 to coach Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks on the former’s home court, the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
What followed the most-anticipated and most-watched game of women’s college basketball in the current campaign is Kia Brooks, Johnson’s mother, going to her Instagram account and starting a live stream. Brooks opined that the Gamecocks will not be seeing any alumni going to the WNBA soon and that the only reason the UConn Huskies have outsold Johnson in jersey sales is due to their 2025 NCAA title.
Fans online heavily criticized Brooks for her comments on the Huskies and the Gamecocks.
“Saying that Flau’ won ’cause SC don’t got any players that’ll be a lottery pick is crazy 😭 And then saying that UConn only sells more jerseys than Flau’ because of the natty they won last year? 😭😭,” one fan questioned with crying emojis and a GIF.
“Lol, acting like Paige wasn’t the top seller the entire season last year like 😭,” another fan pointed out with a crying emoji.
“But Paige and Azzi stayed in the top ten last season? Sarah and KK too? Like,” another user said.
“Mad ’cause Azzi been out selling Flau’ all year 😭😭🤭,” a fan shared with a trio of emojis.

Unfortunately for Brooks and the rest of the LSU faithful, Johnson and her squad lost to South Carolina 79-72. The Tigers have fallen to an overall record of 22-4 (8-4 SEC), and are just the No. 4 seed in the current SEC standings. Johnson, who is in her fourth and likely final year of college hoops, is looking to win her second national championship this season.
Kia Brooks Calls Out The UConn Huskies In Defense Of Flau’jae Johnson
Apart from claiming that none of the current South Carolina Gamecocks players will get selected in the 2026 WNBA Draft later this year, Kia Brooks also called out the UConn Huskies in Flau’jae Johnson’s defense.
According to Brooks, UConn tallied more jersey sales than Johnson in the 2024-25 campaign only because they won the national championship.
“She is one of the top-selling jerseys, only reason UConn in front of is is ’cause they won the championship last year with the jersey sales. Let’s keep it real. Go look at it. Do your math,” Brooks said.
