In a shocking move, redshirt senior guard and Tennessee favorite Kaiya Wynn has announced that she is leaving the program after spending all five of her college years with the Volunteers. This comes after she not asked to be inserted into the Senior Night game with only 15 seconds left on the clock.
The guard stated that this was the last straw and she was already at a “breaking point.”
“Obviously, my last two seasons on the team have been less than ideal for many reasons, but the one night I was most looking forward to was senior night,” she said.
This had fans flocking to her side and saying that it was good for her to leave after feeling disrespected.
“👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Leave, let em know. You don’t have to put up that nonsense. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾,” one supportive fan said.
“If senior night can push a player to leave, imagine what happens when day-to-day respect is missing. Recognition isn’t optional it’s essential.” one person noted.
“If you cannot find a way to give a five-year loyal veteran a single minute of playing time on her own senior night, then you have failed as a leader of people.” another fan commented.
“5 years of loyalty, zero starts, garbage-time sub on senior night. That’s the breaking point. Brutal way to end it for her.” said one person.
“Caldwell has completely killed the program bc the university just wanted an attractive face to attract viewership. She’s such an awful coach,” one Kim Caldwell critic pointed out.
“It takes courage to speak up. Kaiya Wynn didn’t just transfer — she explained why. That transparency matters.” stated another fan.
Kim Caldwell Reacts To Kaiya Wynn Leaving Volunteers Program
As for Kim Caldwell, the head coach soon put out a statement after Kaiya Wynn announced that she will be leaving her program:
“We’ll miss her,” she said. “She was loved in this program, and we respect her decision, but we kind of have to turn the page and kind of focus on the SEC tournament.”
Along with Kaiya Wynn, senior center Jersey Wolfenbarger was also not inserted into the game against No. 5 Vanderbilt, which the Vols lost 87-77. Many slammed head coach Kim Caldwell for not inserting her, especially as Senior Night was supposed to celebrate the contributions of senior players.
