    Dawn Staley Celebrates Ex-South Carolina Star After WNBA All-Star’s $6.3 Million Contract Extension

    Dawn Staley was happy to learn that a South Carolina alum who played college basketball under her went on to earn a big contract extension in the WNBA. Since taking over the program in 2008, Staley has produced several big talents who have went on to do good things at the next stage.

    On Friday, former South Carolina star Aliyah Boston inked a historic four-year contract extension worth $6.3 million with the Indiana Fever. It is the richest total contract in WNBA history. Boston was the first overall pick in 2023 after her four years with South Carolina, where she even became a national champion and earned Naismith College Player of the Year.

    Upon learning about the contract, South Carolina reshared the news on their X page with the following caption:

    “Another day, another Gamecock breaking WNBA salary marks 🤙”

    Staley commented under the post, and showed her excitement for the news:

    “Ch-ching!! The girlies and their bags!! 🥰🥰🥰”

    Boston’s salary for the 2026 season would be close to $1 million. She is slated to earn about 20% of the team’s salary cap each year. The forward took slightly less upfront money to help the team build.

    The former first overall pick out of South Carolina is already a three-time WNBA All-Star. Last season, she earned All-WNBA and Defensive Team honors. She averaged 15.0 PPG, 8.2 RPG, and 3.7 APG. Along with Caitlin Clark, she is considered a cornerstone of the franchise.

    Dawn Staley Scoring Big in Transfer Portal After Championship Heartbreak

    Once again in March Madness, Dawn Staley took South Carolina all the way to the national championship game only to lose in the end. Last year, it was UConn and this year it was Lauren Betts’ UCLA.

    However, Staley is not letting the disappointment of the same in her transfer portal activity as she once aimed to build a contending squad for the NCAA title.

    Most recently, she secured the commitment of Texas Transfer Guard Jordan Lee on Thursday. Staley’s South Carolina has met Lee’s Longhorns six times on the court in the last three years. In those contests, Lee has averaged 7.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, including the SEC Tournament Final, where she recorded 19 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds in nearly 40 minutes.

    It remains to be seen how Staley do in the transfer portal after landing the commitment of another star-calibre player.
