Professional women’s basketball has never been more popular, probably because it’s full of former college basketball stars. One of the largest brands in the world is showcasing that talent with a groundbreaking Super Bowl ad.
The Nike ad, feature former Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark, South Carolina Gamecocks legend A’ja Wilson, and Oregon Ducks sharpshooter Sabrina Ionescu among other female athletes, will focus on women in sports. Here’s what you need to know.
Caitlin Clark, A’ja Wilson, Sabrina Ionescu Among Superstars Featured in Nike’s Female-Focused Super Bowl Ad
While millions of people will watch the Super Bowl in anticipation of the crowning of the NFL’s next champion, millions of others will care more about the advertisements. Super Bowl commercials have long been a time for brands to go all-out on pushing their products.
This year, Nike is going all-in on women’s sports, with a 90-second ad featuring some of the top female athletes in the world. Included in the ad are a trio basketball megastars in Ionescu, Wilson, and Clark. Not only is it one of the longest in Super Bowl history, it’s Nike’s first ad for the Big Game in 27 years.
The latter two just had their jerseys retired by their alma maters last Sunday. But those three aren’t the only star female athletes included in the longest ad in Super Bowl history.
Among the other women featured are Olympic and UCLA Bruins gymnast Jordan Chiles and former LSU track & field star Sha’carri Richardson, who won a silver medal in the 100 meters and a gold in the 4×100-meter relay at the Paris Olympics.

The ad, according to an article from the Wall Street Journal’s Suzanne Vranica, will feature prominent female athletes running, jumping, shooting, and throwing, while a voice-over lists “the many things female athletes are told they can’t do.”
Watch the ad during Super Bowl LIX between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.
