Azzi Fudd is one of the most talented players to play for the UConn Huskies. She had a lot of struggles with injuries and missed a whole season due to an ACL tear. But she regained fitness and won the national championship last season.
There have been many great players in the last few years who have taken women’s basketball to the next level. The list features the infamous final that gave us Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, then JuJu Watkins’ emergence, Paige Bueckers’ emotional comeback, and players like Mikayla Blakes, Hannah Hidalgo, and Fudd showing their true potential.
Despite many marquee moments and great talents, this year’s draft class might be one of the best in recent times. UConn’s Fudd, LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson, TCU’s Olivia Miles, Ole Miss’ Cotie McMahon, South Carolina’s Ta’Niya Latson, UCLA’s Lauren Betts, and more feature in the blockbuster draft class. And with Paige Bueckers’ Dallas Wings already with the lottery pick, the question remains: Will the UConn couple reunite in Dallas?
Despite not really commenting on the WNBA Draft for a while now, this time, Azzi Fudd did react to the possibility of being teammates with her girlfriend, Bueckers. When asked about being the No. 1 draft pick next month, Azzi coyly said, “Maybe.”
A Look at Geno Auriemma and UConn Huskies’ Successful Season So Far
Whoever thought losing Paige Bueckers would make UConn less of a team was proven completely wrong this season. Although no team can be better after losing Bueckers, the way UConn adapted to the new dynamics and played this season was commendable.
With Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong leading the proceedings along with KK Arnold, the Huskies found a new gear. This season, UConn has gone unbeaten and has reached the Sweet 16 as the No. 1 seed overall in the NCAA tournament. Azzi is averaging 17.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Sarah is averaging 18.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.
As commanding as UConn has been all season, if they manage to continue their form, they will have their seventh undefeated season in their history and win back-to-back national championships.
