Azzi Fudd, nicknamed ‘the People’s Princess,’ has had a legendary run with the UConn Huskies. She joined the program in 2021 as a five-star recruit and went on to become one of the best players in UConn history.
The 5’11 shooting guard won the NCAA championship in 2025 and was the NCAA Tournament MOP. This season, Fudd has led the Huskies to an unbeaten run after 34 games and helped secure the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
This is going to be her last season with UConn. The NCAA Tournament will be the last time Fudd will be seen representing the Huskies. And we have an emotionally heavy matchup coming up tomorrow.
The Huskies will play the UTSA Roadrunners tomorrow at Gampel Pavilion. It will be Fudd’s last weekend there. During a recent media interaction, she was asked if she had been thinking about that in the lead-up to the game.
“I have, a little bit,” she said. “Not too much because I’m not ready to get in my feels yet. I’m super excited, but also I want to take full advantage of my last time here, and I’m gonna miss it.”
Many great players have represented the UConn Huskies over the years. The program boasts one of the strongest legacies in basketball. Fudd is undeniably going to be the newest addition to the list of great UConn players.
She would like to close this chapter on a high note. Winning another NCAA title, her second overall, will be the right way to do so. After that, she will go to the WNBA Draft, where she is projected to be a top draft pick.
Azzi Fudd’s Last Chance of Winning a Title with the Huskies
Head coach Geno Auriemma recently spoke on Fudd’s final year with the Huskies. He said that she’s going to be very emotional about it as it’s the end of a big chapter in her career, but she’d also be looking forward to bigger challenges in the future.
There’s no denying that the Huskies fans will show up to support their star player at home. For Auriemma, winning another title to end her college career would mean a lot to Fudd.
“Players are people, and people are human. They’re affected by emotion in many different ways. I’m sure there’s a part of Azzi that’s unbelievably excited — it’s her last chance to get another national championship,” he said.
When she won the NCAA title in 2025, Fudd wasn’t the leader of the team. This time, it’s her team. She’s the one taking charge on the floor and carrying the team’s responsibility. So, it’s going to mean more to her.
