“Wrecking Their Own Sport”: Fox Sports Anchor Rips WNBA After Caitlin Clark Publicly Defends Alyssa Thomas

Fox News’ Kevin Corke weighed in on the Caitlin Clark-Alyssa Thomas situation on Sunday after the Indiana Fever guard defended the Phoenix Mercury star from online criticism.

Having a hearty laugh about the turn of events, Corke focused his own criticism on the WNBA for allowing things to escalate to this point.

“It’s so crazy…If you want to kill the goose that laid the golden egg, keep this up…They are wrecking their own sport by not calling fouls when they should.”

Corke added that “casual fans” like him are losing interest in the WNBA because the league is “mistreating” Clark.

The backlash against league officials escalated after the June 24 encounter between the Mercury and the Fever. In that game, no foul was called after Thomas’ fist made contact with Clark’s throat as the two-time All-Star lay on the floor.

The league went on to impose a one-game suspension on Thomas, which led to an outcry from the Mercury. Head coach Nate Tibbetts, in particular, bemoaned the lack of a thorough investigation before the WNBA suspended Thomas.

This past weekend, Clark condemned the online attacks on Thomas, saying that it wasn’t acceptable for the Mercury star to endure “the harassment and the hate.”

Caitlin Clark’s Head Coach Calls Out Members of Online Community for “Unacceptable” Behavior Towards Alyssa Thomas

After the Fever-Mercury game on June 24, Fever head coach Stephanie White said it was “egregious” for the referees to not call a foul on Alyssa Thomas.

In a media availability last week, White turned her attention to the negative comments aimed at Thomas, admonishing those who took things too far.

“I just want to address what’s going on with AT. First and foremost, it’s absolutely unacceptable. As a league, as a whole, there’s been so much more toxicity, racism, homophobia, straight out nonsense…most of this coming from the online community.”

White said she believes in her “heart of hearts” that most of the vitriol does not actually come from WNBA fans, but from people who wish to “further divisive agendas.”
