The final votes for the WNBA All-Star game are in and the 10 starters have been announced. However, the Los Angeles Sparks’ Kelsey Plum is set to miss out on the starting spot and her coach Lynne Roberts is absolutely livid with that.
A reporter asked Roberts what her thoughts were after the WNBA starters did not include Plum. The coach made her opinion very clear.
“It’s ridiculous. It’s become a social media popularity contest. It’s not about who the most impactful players are. She was by far one of the best players in the league, was having an MVP season. I didn’t even know that,” Roberts said.
“It’s shocking but yet not surprising. And I hope our league can get to this point where it’s not just popularity in terms of social media and actually about what these guys are doing on the court,” she added.
Furthermore, Roberts also claimed that if Plum had been more active on social media, she might have been included as a starter. The Sparks star is averaging 23.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 12 games so far this season.
