Despite Caitlin Clark’s Stance, Fans Troll Alyssa Thomas After Mercury Shouts Out Guard For Leading League in Assists

Alyssa Thomas has overtaken Caitlin Clark to become the new assist leader in the league this season after the Phoenix Mercury’s massive win over the Seattle Storm, 90-67. The guard was back after serving her one-game suspension for her flagrant foul against Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever. However, fans haven’t seemed to be moving on from that instance any time soon.

Clark earlier addressed Thomas’ statement about the extreme criticism she has been receiving on social media in the aftermath of her suspension. She stood in solidarity with Thomas against online hate. However, a few fans didn’t miss the opportunity to let Thomas know how she became the assists leader.

The Mercury’s official account shared Thomas’ latest feat on X and wrote:

“Who is the league leader in assists?

    Alyssa Thomas.”

Fans quickly took to the comment section and reminded Thomas of the past instances, as one wrote:

“Well, I guess if you injure the previous assist leader so she misses games, this is going to happen!”

Another user took a dig at Thomas’ antics:

“Also league leader in throat crushing.”

One more fan wrote in the same tone:

“Well yeah. She got CC injured and will miss 2 games. It is easier to get those asst whenever your team sucks and by mid 3rd period you play against 2nd team.”

One more user mentioned her altercation with Clark:

“Leads the league in assaults too!”

Another user wrote in a seemingly sarcastic tone:

“Is she punching players in throat for the assist??”

Fans are surely not over the last incident that seemingly sent Clark to the locker room with back pain during the June 26 game. However, head coach Stephanie White has managed to keep the team floating in Clark’s absence with Tyasha Harris on the starting squad.

Caitlin Clark addresses Alyssa Thomas receiving online hate

Caitlin Clark, in her extensive statement during the Indiana Fever’s practice session, talked about Alyssa Thomas and her statement about the hate against her. The Fever superstar said:

“The harassment, the hate, none of that is OK. That goes for the opposing team we play. That goes for my teammates. That goes for my coaches. There should never be question of character. None of that is OK, and I don’t want anybody to ever experience that.”

Fans are waiting for Clark to be healthy and lead the Fever to a promising situation in the regular season. Meanwhile, Tyasha Harris has adjusted to the starting lineup perfectly in her first game, scoring 16 points in 30 minutes. There is no exact timeline of Clark’s return for now.
