A’ja Wilson decided to re-sign with the Las Vegas Aces after the franchise offered her a 3-year, $5 million supermax deal, as the league agreed on the new CBA deal. Interestingly, Indiana Fever superstar Aliyah Boston also received a max deal earlier, worth $6.3 million for four years. The two offers are almost at par with each other, and WNBA analysts Alicia Jay and Erica L. Ayala were “surprised” by the amount Boston was offered.
Wilson has won three championships with the Las Vegas Aces in her eight-year career. She also boasts two Finals MVPs and four league MVPs, making her one of the most dominant players in the current era. Boston, on the other hand, had a promising rookie season in 2023 and has already made the Fever a championship side, even when Caitlin Clark was out for the entire season in 2025.
On We Need To Talk on YouTube, Jay and Ayala discussed the supermax contracts and expressed their shock that Boston was offered an almost similar deal to Wilson, given the kind of success the Aces forward has produced in her career. Ayala said:
“I don’t think that’s a sweeping indictment of Aliyah Boston. Do I think that A’ja Wilson should be the highest-paid player or at least one of them, yeah… Are we gonna see players that have more championships, more years in the league, and even MVPs that are not gonna be paid as much as Aliyah Boston? Clearly. Because Aliyah Boston and A’ja Wilson now are in the same tier.”
Ayala also added that some of those players who were offered less than Boston might have consciously made that decision because they wanted to be on a championship squad and acquire other pieces. On the other hand, Alicia Jay was also of the same opinion and said:
“I think when people hear numbers like we heard with both of these amazing players, all they are thinking about is who made more? And I get that, it is a factor. I was shocked myself when I saw that Aliyah Boston got the contract that she did, but I also say go on girl, get your money.”
However, fans did not let the WNBA analysts’ statement slide and expressed their displeasure with them downplaying Boston’s achievement and impact in the league.
Fans seemed displeased with WNBA analysts’ statements about A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston
Several users did not agree with the “shock” WNBA analysts Alicia Jay and Erica L. Ayala talked about in their statement. A user wrote:
“WNBA “media” obsession with everyone having to bow down to A’ja Wilson is pathetic.”
Another user dismissed the idea of paying players based on their resume and achievements in the league and wrote:
“It’s ridiculous to think that vets on title teams YEARS AGO “deserve” bigger pay days, simply for the fact that those pay days didn’t exist back then.
They’re not paying out restitution, despite Cloud’s comparisons to the situation being like “a friend who owes me money.””
Another fan was convinced that analysts were upset with Wilson getting paid in the same league as Boston and wrote:
“Yall couldn’t make it any more obvious that your upset that A’ja doesn’t have the biggest contract if yall tried. Her agent needs to step it up then instead of getting upset others are getting paid.”
One more user believed that offering a big contract to Boston was the correct decision and wrote:
“This is a weird take. AB is a nr 1 pick so is A’ja. Both are cornerstones of their franchises. Not sure where the confusion is. The Fever would’ve been idiots not to paid one of their star players for the foreseeable future especially when they have CC on lock next to her.”

The new CBA deal has opened doors for WNBA players to be recognized and get paid what they deserve. Only time will tell if the Fever’s decision turns out to be fruitful for the team in the upcoming season.
