Caitlin Clark has been getting a lot of pushback from several people in the media, especially as she has been getting a lot of technical fouls for perceived non-calls from referees.
Among Clark’s biggest critics is sports analyst Monica McNutt, who is often the target of attacks from Clark’s supporters whenever she criticizes the Indiana Fever star. She was asked for her thoughts regarding Clark calling the media coverage of her “emotionally exhausting,” and McNutt praised Clark but also did not hold back on her criticism.
“Caitlin Clark is 24 and is also a shining star in the galaxy of the WNBA, but I do think as you matriculate through this league that there is room for more accountability and self-awareness in terms of her role in the larger sisterhood if she sees it that way in the WNBA,” McNutt said. “But I do agree with her 100% that it is certainly exhausting for all of us who want to celebrate where this league is.”
Clark has often been in the middle of many controversies as of late, with one of the players who had a physical altercation with her, Chelsea Gray, receiving racist messages from her supporters.
Caitlin Clark Reflects On Alyssa Thomas Incident During Interview
When Caitlin Clark admitted she is exhausted by the coverage regarding her, she did it during an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews. During that same interview, Clark was also asked about one of her biggest controversies this season, and that was her incident with the Phoenix Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas, where the Mercury star seemingly hit her in the throat.
“It seems like there’s always a moment like that in every season that I’ve played so far. And I think for myself, I just try to navigate it the best I can. It gets exhausting, it gets frustrating, because I think especially that’s a perfect example of, like, yeah, it was a hard foul. And it should have been dealt with in the moment, and they should have decided what it was then and reviewed it. Great, we move on. You see it happen in the NBA all the time,” she said.
Originally, no foul was called on Thomas, inciting a firestorm from Caitlin Clark supporters. She was soon slapped with a Flagrant 2.
