Caitlin Clark is back after a 6-month hiatus due to a groin injury, and the Indiana Fever might look to maximize their title chances in the coming season. The team really felt the need for an offense facilitator when the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year was out of the rotation, and the Fever management might look to add a backup in that position.
Media personality Robin Lundberg discussed the Fever’s prospects for the 2026 draft and believed that the South Carolina Gamecocks guard Raven Johnson could fill that gap perfectly. Sports commentator Ryan Ruocco hailed Johnson for her hard work and also lauded SC’s head coach, Dawn Staley, for preparing players for the pros.
Even though Johnson is 5-foot-8, Lundberg argued that her defensive ability could enable her to guard players over her size. Ruocco replied:
“She’s small, but I think she could guard up a little bit. Honestly, one place I kind of like think it would be interesting for her would be a backup guard in Indiana because she is so good with the get-ahead passing.”
Other guards the Fever could target in the draft might be Tania Mair of Duke or someone like Tonie Morgan of Kentucky. Even though Ruocco believed they had little chance of being a starting guard, they could be valuable playing off the bench.
Preparations for a new WNBA season are in full swing after the new CBA deal went through, as teams look ahead to the draft. While Aliyah Boston, who is due an extension this offseason, has shown his abilities in the frontcourt, the Fever could go for a backup guard with its 10th overall pick.
The Fever set to host Nigerian National Team for a preseason game
The Indiana Fever has announced that the team will play the Nigerian National Team in a preseason game on May 2. This would allow head coach Stephanie White to evaluate her roster before the 2026 drafts and target the free agency accordingly. The team announced the game on X:
Other Fever preseason matchups include games with the Dallas Wings, featuring the reigning ROTY Paige Bueckers, and the New York Liberty. Fans eagerly wait for their favorite superstar to take the center stage once again in the WNBA after her stellar run in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers, where she was awarded the MVP.
